Funding News$530,000 in College Grants Awarded to Virginia Colleges and UniversitiesThe philanthropic branch of the Richmond-based Dominion Resources, the Dominion Foundation, has recently announced plans to donate $530,000 to sixteen Virginia colleges and universities. The grants are a part of Dominion’s Higher Educational Partnership program, which works to coordinate the company’s support of higher education institutions with its current employee needs. Dominion regularly accepts applications for its grants, which can total up to $50,000, from programs that are aligned with the company’s goal of developing a skilled work force in areas deemed critical to the success of the company. Some examples of educational programs that would be considered important to Dominion Resources are business, engineering, energy production, environmental science, and information technology. The foundation accepts grant applications twice each year with an Oct. 1 and April 1 deadline for consideration. The foundation's Grants Committee reviewed and approved 13 of these grants; the remaining 10 grants were awarded by the advisors to the George B.
